OMD
Cabaret Metro, Chicago, Monday 2nd September 1985
The wheels were coming off the OMD bandwagon by 1985. After struggling through some tough early years, the Liverpudlians had carved out a niche for themselves in the early 80s with a bunch of cool, geeky tunes that really caught the imagination.
By 1985 they had lost their edge and the band's latest LP "Crush" was panned by the critics and fans alike. That said, some of their later fizzy-pop tunes were real earworms - "Tesla Girls" and "Locomotion" certainly stick in the head!
You almost get an apologetic feel from this show in Chicago, from McCluskey's banter to the tracklist. But don't be fooled, the audience are loving it,and it's full of surprises and odd turns.
The sound quality is excellent and the band sound good throughout.
