YELLOW MAGIC ORCHESTRA
TransAtlantic Tour, The Bottom Line, New York City, 1979
Being a massive Japan fan, the Yellow Magic Orchestra has
been on my radar from the early 80s. The Japanese synth innovators formed
were formed in Tokyo in 1978 by Ryuichi Sakamoto (RIP), Harry Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi (RIP).
The YMO went on to be one of the biggest synthpop bands in Japan and the influential individual members all had wide-ranging careers in fashion, art, design, acting and
production away from the band.
This fairly early show performed on the band’s first tour of
the USA is a riot of electronic sounds, funky digital beats with more than a
healthy dose of arcade inspired tunes – it’s fun, funky and if you aren’t a YMO
fan already, this will probably win you over!
The sound quality is great, balanced and sharp, and the CD
comes with newly designed cover and disc art.
