CABARET VOLTAIRE
Paradiso, Amsterdam 1983
Post-punk, Sheffield, sound innovators Cabaret Voltaire
pushed the envelope of sampling and hypnotic looping to produce some of the first
techno output back in the early 80s. The pair were an influential bands’ band,
often working with other musicians such as New Order at their South Yorkshire studios.
Though mainstream success eluded them, they had a rich and
lengthy career, often flagged in the wider arts scene – such as their poster
hanging in Ferris Bueller’s bedroom.
The band’s live shows were intense, dark affairs – airing on
the band’s punk roots with little time wasted on interaction or muso gesturing.
This show comes from their high point, just ahead of the 84 release of ‘Microphonies’
and it’s a great listen.
The sound quality is excellent and the CD comes with newly designed cover and disc art.
