Gary Numan: Hammersmith Odeon, 1983

GARY NUMAN

Hammersmith Odeon, London, 13 October 1983

The great Numan was in a tricky place in '83, his mass popularity was slipping after smashing it in 1980. "Warriors" was the latest album and his 'Mad Max' themed offering wasn't getting the level of love he'd become accustomed to.
That said, he packed in the fans for the tour!
The BBC recorded him at Hammersmith Odeon for its 'In Concert' show which was broadcast in early 1984. It's a great recording, as you would expect and includes a range of Numan's early work and songs from the new album. What's interesting is that he was getting into a more funky bass sound - possibly influenced by his mate Mick Karn - which is prevalant throughout the show.
